The Problem
The Rock Island High School Stadium was experiencing significant deterioration due to years of use and exposure to the elements. The deck coating and sealant joints had failed on the seating side of the stadium and were deteriorating the structural concrete below. The exterior masonry had failing arches, and open mortar and caulking joints. It was time to for a large scale restoration.
Our Approach
To ensure the continued enjoyment and safety of the stadium, the school district brought in Legat Architects to design the repair plan. The project was very ambitious and tackled both the stadium side and the exterior masonry all to be complete by the end of the summer prior to the football season.
Our team worked really hard to make this a reality by running separate crews, with one crew working on the stadium side repairs (deck coating, sealant replacement) and another crew working on the brick and concrete repairs. Here are some fun stats from the project:
- 37,000 SF of Pedestrian Deck Coating
- 500 LF of Emseal Expansion Joints Installed
- 11,000 SF of Tuckpointing
- 1,000 Brick Replaced
- 1,200 LF of Caulking Replaced
- And much more....
We would also like to thank our our manufacturing partner, Sika, on this project for the on-site testing and support to ensure a successful deck coating project.
