Concrete block, industrially known as CMU, provides incredible strength, quick installation timelines, and flexibility in construction. CMU can be built as a backup wall as part of a cavity-wall construction or stand along as a single wythe building.
CMU can be ordered in various textures (i.e. common, split faced, colored, burnished, glazed) and many different sizes. CMU is the ultimate building material that, when designed by the structural engineer, can serve as the “bones” of the building, meeting whatever strength and movement requirements necessary by changing the size of the CMU and rebar/grout reinforcement spacing.

When standard CMU or another material, like wood framing, is used as a backup wall the exterior of the building is faced with a more aesthetic product.
